Thai YOGA bodywork + Energy healing
rooted from Thai Yoga Bodywork with Tanya in Minneapolis, MN
In my bodywork practice, I have evolved from traditional Thai Massage to a somatic energy-based approach. While honoring the foundations of my training in the United States and Thailand over the past eight years, my main focus is to support the parasympathetic nervous system, which allows the body to naturally heal itself.
THE HOW:
During each session, I create a safe space for clients to fully connect with their bodies. This is facilitated through breathwork, visualization, gentle touch, and energy work. My approach combines various techniques, including assisted yoga, gentle twisting, acupressure, fascia release, and somatic energy healing. It is often referred to as “lazy man yoga”, as it guides the physical body to stretch therapeutically, increase range of motion, stimulate circulation to support all vital organ function.
my gifts:
I believe all humans on earth hold “psychic” gifts. I call it our animal instincts. My life story includes many flavors of trauma including a diagnosis of PTSD at the age of fourteen. I believe when humans live in survival mode for extended periods of time they develop “psychic” gifts to survive. My sessions are wildly different from most massage/bodywork sessions because I’m not afraid to use my animal instincts while guiding. My main gift is clairsentience. This means my body feels the energy that is blocked in your body. This means I never follow a routine, but instead follow the responses in your nervous system.
THE INTEGRATION:
While rooted in ancient Thai healing practices influenced by Buddhism, Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, and Indigenous Thai medicine, I also incorporate elemental energy healing and various forms of meditation. I hold space for clients with absolute kindness and no judgement. I provide verbal guidance without traditional chanting or prayer. You are welcome to bring any form of Faith practice into your healing session.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
This style of bodywork is performed on a Thai futon mattress, and clients are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing they can stretch and move in. It is important to wear T-shirts to ensure armpits are covered. Massage oils are only used to prevent pulling hair near heck and sometimes arms. Clients remain fully clothed the entire session.
“Nothing like I’ve ever experienced in my 30 years of receiving massages, physical therapy, myofascial release therapy, and even a cortisone shot! “
- 66 year old client
FIRST TIME?
During an intake session, I conduct an assessment of joint mobility, breath quality, and energy body. I guide clients through breathwork, visualization, and meditation to prepare them for the physical touch, Somatic Bodywork. Each session is unique, as I follow the client's body and nervous system response, facilitating their shift into the parasympathetic nervous system. Clients are active participants in their healing journey, and I remind them that they are the healers, while I serve as their guide.
BONUS *
Incorporating energy work, there may be moments when clients release stored trauma or energy, resulting in shaking, impulse movements, crying, or other involuntary reactions. I support clients through these experiences, ensuring that their body only releases what it feels safe and ready to let go of. It is important to note that these intense reactions may not occur in the first session and vary for each unique client and session.
SESSION OVERVIEW:
This style of bodywork is performed on a Thai futon mattress, with comfortable clothes you can stretch in, and no massage oils. Alyssa will start with a full body assessment including mobility, breath and energy body. From there she will position the client and start the bodywork. The last 10-15 minutes of the session will include Energy Work to support deep relaxation and to seal in the work. At the end, clients will be given optional practices to continue to support healing and balance after the session.
All forms of expression are welcome on my mat. I didn’t release the tension bound in her shoulder and jaw; she did with breath, sound and attention.
