What is Somatic Yoga?

Somatic Yoga is a practice that combines traditional yoga with somatic movements, focusing on the mind-body connection and increasing body awareness. The term "somatic" comes from the Greek word "soma," meaning "body," and emphasizes the internal experience of the body rather than just external postures. In this class we engage in gentle movements and stretches that encourage mindfulness and a deeper awareness of physical sensations. This approach allows students to release tension, improve flexibility, and cultivate a sense of relaxation and well-being without adding more stress to the nervous system. It can be beneficial for those recovering from injuries, dealing with chronic pain, or looking to reduce stress. Overall, somatic yoga emphasizes the importance of listening to one's body, moving in a way that feels good, and fostering a deeper connection between the mind, heart and body.
